You need to handle that in form_valid() method of the view.

classCreateGig(CreateView):
    model = Gig    
    fields = ['title','category','description','price','photo','status']

    defform_valid(self, form):
        form.instance.user = self.request.user
        returnsuper(CreateGig, self).form_valid(form)
